Nature as Inspiration. And an Inspiring network of my businesswomen friends.

Yesterday I had a fun experience, of being on camera for a promotional film (more on that later, and why it was fun and wonderful), and having to speak about “What Inspires you, why and how?” It was a question that made me go confused for a bit, when put to me all of a sudden over a cup of tea. I was told that I could think about it for a minute and come on camera and speak for another few seconds about it !

Anyway I got thinking, and after a few seconds of myriad thoughts and pictures floating through my mind, the idea of nature as my inspiration became crystal clear. I got to thinking of just how and why is nature so inspiring for me. That led me to the sense of a deep connection, a sense of oneness,  with all of the world, all of creation, which I find inspiring. All this mind work, visions and reflections were barely done when Vimala Rajkumari, the director making the film asked me if I was ready to come in front of the camera. I was indeed ready, eager in fact to do so ! I was keen to express what I had so clearly understood and re-iterated to myself.

So this is what I shared on camera: “What inspires me is the majesty of Nature. When I look at the stars and think that I am made of the same stuff as them, that I am essentially the same as all of creation, I find it in me then to take on any challenge”. I don’t know how this sounds to you, but I am very pleased with my lines 🙂

Now on to the film and why we were doing it. Some of you may know that I am closely associated with Biz Divas India, where I am currently the Delhi-Gurgaon Chapter President . It is a NFO that promotes skill development, mentoring and networking, aiming to empower women to enhance their lives and societal impact through  economic growth. In this context we are hosting a major national conference in New Delhi, at the Imperial Hotel on 5th April 2013, and as part of the run up to this we are making a promotional film. So that’s what the shoot and the sound bytes on inspiration were all about.

The experience was wonderful in that it made me delve deep, and reach my  cherished beliefs quickly, in a very short time frame (with a one minute deadline actually). The movie shoot opportunity made me touch my core convictions and it gave me a platform to express them loud. It is a lovely feeling to be able to do so.  And it was fun too, being directed, being a ‘movie-star’ for a few seconds, going through the ‘cut’ and ‘action’ and ‘calling’ routine, and being told to stand just so, or tilt one’s head just that way….and all the re-takes. I quite enjoyed watching the director too, and have asked her to take me on as her assistant – it was really fun to see how a story gets told with her vision and framing. All in all, a fun time. And a great chance to revisit, reaffirm and reconnect with my deepest inspiration. And by the way, as I write this I realize this has been a week of media highlights for me, what with my radio talk with Christina Fernandes on Radio One on Monday morning, and now this movie clip on Wednesday!

Going on with the theme of inspiration, here are a few more quotes on Nature.

“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.”

“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”
